ActiveWin isn’t just our name, it’s at the heart of everything we do. From our dynamic digital and affiliate marketing campaigns, to our support of local charity The SMA Trust, we talk the talk and walk the walk.
Or, rather, run the run!
Comprising the Manchester Half-Marathon and 10K, the Simply Health Great Manchester Run takes in the sights and sounds of the city.
It’s also an opportunity to raise money for some fantastic causes.
This year, eight Active-Winners have signed up as part of Team David, a fundraiser created by Jonathan and Patricia Dee in aid of their young son who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is a neuromuscular condition which affects 1 in 6000 children. The SMA Trust is dedicated to researching treatments, with the hopes of finding a cure.
With a week and a half to go, training has stepped up, and each runner has found their own rhythm.
We caught up with the ‘Active Eight’ to find out why they signed up, and how you can help.
10K Run:
Business Development Marketing Executive Adam Jackson:
“As a representative of the ActiveWin SMA committee, I’m proud to be involved in a lot of the fundraising. It’s not just a corporate responsibility here, it’s something our entire team is passionate about. I’ve created an internal competition to guess my time to help raise a bit extra and it’s also good motivation for me to push myself further.”
Predicted time: 41-45 minutes
VIP Account Manager Sabina Moore:
“The three of us signed up almost immediately after seeing a video of David Dee and his family. The effects of SMA really hit home and I wanted to do something to help.”
CRM Marketing Assistant Margarida Vale:
“It’s still a relatively unknown condition so to be able to raise money and awareness is amazing. None of us run really, so we’ve been encouraging each other, doing park runs and that kind of thing.”
CRM Marketing Executive Rebekah Douglas:
“I only ever used to run on a treadmill, I was too conscious of people seeing me, but now I have a goal, I’ve conquered my fear.”
Predicted time: 1 hour – 1.15 hours
ActiveWins Affiliate Team Leader Eliot Jacob:
“There’s been a bit of good-natured banter from the team about me running, but I really wanted to get involved. Hearing Jonathan speak and realising what the Dee family goes through on a daily basis, you can’t help but want to do something.”
Predicted time: 55 minutes – 1 hour
Half-Marathon:
Media Buyer Daniel Goux:
“I wanted to step it up and really go for it. Having something to train for encourages you to keep running, and knowing you’re doing it for such a great cause spurs you on.”
Predicted time: 1.45 – 2 hours
Head of Marcom Stephanie Banks:
“I’ve gone straight in and signed up for the half-marathon, go big or go home! Knowing you are helping such a worthy cause puts any pain into perspective. I’m hoping the strength training I’ve been doing will stand me in good stead.”
Predicted time: 2.5 hours
CRM Marketing Executive Mike Swain:
“I’ve been struggling with minor injuries and had to cut back on training, but I’m determined to finish the race. I’m looking forward to seeing what times we can achieve and how much the eight of us can raise for The SMA Trust.”
Predicted time: 1.45 – 2 hours
You can sponsor the trio on their joint JustGiving page.
Best of luck to everyone taking part, and thanks to everyone who has donated so far!
